How do I fix my bad credit?

I have bad credit. I have already consulted a "professinal credit counseler" but got a half ass response. I am not ready to pay additional money to have someone else fix my problem. I have had bad credit for about 2+ years now. I used to have decent credit. It is estimated that I have around $20,000 owed. I would like to do this myself and contact the creditors, collectors and banks myself. I just want to know what would be the right approach so that they get paid and my credit report will show that I have made and effort to do the rigth thing? I have a family and would like to buy a house one day. I also want to go into law enforcement. So credit is important to me. Any advice would help. Thanks

You need to listen to this guy on radio, or better yet, call him. He WILL help you and not treat you like a low life. Good Luck!!

Credit Repair Letters

There is no one who doesn’t want to clear the bad credit issues from his credit report. Sample credit repair letters help you to accurately ask the credit reporting agencies to fix the problems in your credit rating report. Take a look at your report properly and try to find more and more issues which can be fixed. Write credit repair letter to the agencies so that they clear the misunderstandings from the report. If this is not done, this might raise issues for next time when you are buying something on credit. These sample credit repair letters usually help the consumers in order to make the credit reporting agencies understand well about the errors in a particular report so that the credit bureaus take appropriate steps to fix it.

Several companies provide their consumers with sample credit repair letters so that it helps them to clear up negative issues in their credit reports. A good credit report is a must to do shopping on credit and live a better life.

The most common problem which many people face is the listing of inaccurate facts in their reports for which they are not responsible. These mistakes will deteriorate your credit report. For instance, two identical looking social security numbers might result in wrong data entry which might turn good credit report into bad and vice versa. Same goes with identical names and states, etc. You always own the right to challenge such mistakes which damage your report. This kind of inaccurate and incorrect information should get fixed soon and sample credit repair letters can be a real help in notifying the credit bureau about such issues and get them fixed.

Many companies provide the professionally written credit repair letters which are clearly written and point right on the issues which you need to highlight. People usually tend to get extremely confused when they find inaccuracies in their credit report. Some try to ask friends for ways to fix that and some even look on the Internet. The best way for this is to send a professionally written sample credit repair letter to the concerned agency and get your bad credit report cleared off the errors.

It is better to get a copy of your credit report from all three agencies before you start your credit repair letter writing campaign. According to the law, credit bureaus are supposed to send you one copy of your credit report every year without any additional charges. These professionally written letters make things clear and have all the information in them which all the three major credit reporting agencies need in order to fix your credit report and clear it off the issues which you have requested them.

This process is not so hard, all you need to do is to go online or write to them for a request to send the report. At the most they might ask you for an identity proof. Once they are sure that you are the right person they send it right on. After you get your report in hand, watch it carefully and make sure that all the creditors listed are your account holders. Also, check all the information if it is correct or not. If anything is wrong in it, here comes the role of a credit repair letter.

If and when you find inaccuracies in your credit report, write a credit repair letter to the agency stating the issues and possible remedies. It is then their duty to check it all, fix it and also to send you a new credit report. It is always better to mail them the report and keep a record of delivery receipt with you. If and when you don’t get a delivery receipt, send a follow up credit repair letter

Well written credit repair letters are always in demand by people to get their credit report fixed by correcting inaccurate details. Such letters highlight the problems in your credit report in such a manner that the agencies notice them and also fix them thus improving your credit ratings.

How do i fix bad credit?

I have the worst credit in the world. I want to fix it but don’t know how to get started. Any ideas?

You do not fix bad credit, you re-establish good credit.

Start with 2 credit cards and charge everyday things be careful never to exceed 30% of your credit limit and pay in full before the due date.

This should raise your score at least 100 points over a 24 month period.

Then you can start on your installment credit with a car, furniture or personal loan.

Dispute It: What To do If You Find An Error On Your Credit Report

Credit agencies are managed and ran by humans, and from time to time, humans have been known to make mistakes. This leaves the door wide open for there to be mistakes on your credit report. I am not saying there is, I am just saying there could be. In order to protect yourself and your credit standing, it is recommended that you review your credit report once every 90 days.

When you review your credit report, you may come across some information that just does not add up. When you do, you should record this information on a separate piece of paper. Some things to look for include: accounts that are not yours, accounts entered more than once, payments recorded as late when they were on time, discrepancies in amount owed, etc. If you have any questions about anything, write it down.

Your first instinct when you find something that you do not understand on your credit report is to panic. Your mind is filled with dark scenarios where someone stole your identity and is living the good life in a tropical paradise. Before you panic and send off a 10-page letter to the credit bureau, take a moment to review each account in question.

Sometimes accounts that appear out of place are actually legitimate. Take for instance collection accounts. Often, these accounts will appear under different names as the debt has been sold by the original creditor. For entries that you do not recognize, you should use the contact information provided. Call the company and ask who the original creditor was. Ask when the account was opened, at what branch, etc. This might clear up any questions that you have.

If it does not, you will need to contact the credit bureau by mail. Instead of writing a book, though, you should only send a brief explanation of why you think the account should not be on your credit report. Popular complaints include: I was not late, this is not my account, this is more than 7 years old, this collection was reported in error and so on. Keep this letter brief. Your purpose is only to bring the discrepancy to the credit bureaus attention. They will then contact the creditor and ask for verification of the debt. All you need to do is wait.

In most cases, erroneous entries will be removed at this stage. If not, you will have to contact the original creditor. Be sure to keep any correspondence from the creditor as you will need to send this to the credit bureau once your investigation is done. Keep in mind that creditors must respond to your requests within a limited amount of time. If they do not or if they fail to validate your debt, you can have the negative information removed from your credit report; you can also sue them for damages.

If you find an error on your report, there is no reason to sit back and do nothing. Your credit standing is at stake, and there are avenues that you can use to get information removed from your report. Take advantage of them. If you find it all confusing you should consider hiring a professional credit restoration company.

Why you Need to Care About your Credit Score

It is probably not a news alert to you that there are three major credit bureaus in the US, all of which maintain a credit score about you. Your credit score supposedly gives an accurate reflection of your ability and organizational skills to repay loans on time. It does not matter if that loan is a mortgage, a car payment, a gas company credit card, a department store credit card, a Visa or MasterCard or Discover or American Express, they all get lumped together. Your credit score not only reflects the debts you currently have outstanding, but also debts you have had in the past and your payment history with that lender, even if that account has been closed for years.

So what happens is that a single number, usually between 450 and 850, is assigned to you and supposedly reflects your credit-worthiness in the eyes of that credit bureau. Why do I keep saying supposedly? Because the actual value of that number that reflects your credit score is worthless. Let me explain.

First of all, each credit reports to at least one, and sometimes two of the major credit bureaus. Then contracts change, personnel changes, and then they start to report to a different credit bureau. Any errors that were reported to the first credit agency are still there and are no longer being updated, so the error stays there, while the lender is now reporting to the second credit agency. The exception to this rule, which is not even universal, is that mortgage companies usually report to all three credit bureaus, simply because of the size of the loan.

Next, think of the volume of data that the credit bureaus need to maintain. They have a record for each account that you currently have and have ever had, along with details of your payment history with them. That right there is not much, but now multiply that by the total number of businesses and consumers in the entire country, and you can begin to see the large volume of data they need to maintain, which numbers in the BILLIONS of records. If even 0.1% (less than 1%) of these records are in error, that still means there are hundreds of thousands of errors. And for the record, current studies indicate the number of errors is greater than 10%, which is tens of millions!

So there are the facts. No one credit bureau has a completely clear picture of any person’s credit history, because lenders report to a variety of lenders. The credit bureaus do not share records. Studies indicate that the credit bureau’s data probably contains errors anyway. So is your credit history reflected by the number that any one credit bureau returns as an indicator of your credit worthiness? Absolutely not! How can it be?

But what it is is what it is and we need to work with it. So what you can do to keep your credit history as clean as possible is to make sure that there are no errors reported. That means that you need to get a copy of your credit report, and get a separate copy from each of the three credit bureaus, which are Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Then go over the data shown there and dispute anything that reflects poorly on you. In other words, anything at all! Do this with each credit bureau. Some studies have shown that instead of disputing five items in one letter, it is more effective to dispute one item per letter. Do this with EACH credit bureau. Once they receive your dispute letter, they then have 30 days to either prove the information is accurate, or they are obligated by federal law to remove it.

You should do this at least annually, and more likely, at least twice per year. Your credit rating and credit score are very valuable to you, and to have it reflect something that is less than what you deserve makes no sense at all.

Following The Right Steps To Credit Repair

Credit repair becomes an absolute necessity when you get to learn that you have a poor or adverse credit rating. While getting to know from a copy of your credit report that your FICO score, your rating of credit worthiness, falls below average(i.e. below 550) you need to resolve to take suitable measures to bring it up to normal levels. For this you need to follow the right course of action and take up the most appropriate steps.

To start with, you need to secure a copy of your credit report. Upon checking if you detect any errors, omissions etc. in your report then you need to make sure that they are duly redressed by reporting to the concerned persons (creditors etc.). This is not really a measure to repair credit. Rather, it is a check and rectification of the credit report.

The first credit repair measure you can take up is to establish a family budget. This can prove to be a crucial step towards credit repair. This should include calculated spending for day to day and other family expenses so that lesser use of credit cards is involved. Timely payments to be made towards debts and bills are also to be contained in this budget. Outstanding accounts and pending debts need to be settled before proceeding with adopting further credit repair procedures.

The old credit cards not in use anymore can be closed with the associated accounts. The new account status after reduction in the numbers of credit cards is to be reported to the credit reporting agencies. They can take note of it while preparing your future credit reports.

The creditors may be requested to reduce the credit limits on your account. Going for a prepaid credit card can be a novel way to limit the amount of spending you can make using credit card. Credit reestablishment measures including co-signing on a loan or credit by a family member or friend and making of timely payments here are very useful. These will go a long way towards credit repair by preventing the possibility of further credit damage. It is also a good idea to keep a secured credit card and keep some designated amount, sufficient to cover your charges, in the account. By making timely payments in here too will help reestablish your credit gradually.

Finally, avoiding bankruptcies, tax liens and collections will help you stay clear from the black marks which remain in your report for a long time and mar your loan prospects.
